Nothing stays the same. Well, almost. Because one thing will certainly never change: Roger Radatz's love for the music of New Orleans.
For decades he has dedicated himself to a very special form of this music with his band "The Evolution" and enthused audiences all over Germany and Europe in innumerable performances.
Shuffle-based Rhythm & Blues, Jump & Jive, Boogie Woogie – inspired by the sound of legends like Louis Prima, Sam Butera, Louis Jordan and others – were the main dishes on Mr Radatz's menu.
There's another thing that will never change about Roger: the New Orleans beat.
Roger learned it direct from drummer legend Freddie Kohlman, among others. This beat is the trunk of the tree that is New Orleans music, sprouting new branches and blossoms again and again.
Names like Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, the Neville Brothers, Wynton Marsalis, Trombone Shorty and others stand for the enormous variety and constant renewal of this wonderful music from the city on the Mississippi.
But however good some dishes taste, no-one wants to keep on eating the same meals every day. After all, New Orleans offers not only jambalaya and red beans & rice, but also crawfish ettoufée, poulet fricassée & yama yama!
So Roger has now decided to relaunch his musical concept. In future, this concept (already suggested by the name "Evolution") will focus on presenting the best European New Orleans-style musicians in changing line-ups, thus also opening up and varying the stylistic framework.
In addition to the proven musicians of Roger & The Evolution (Harold John v.Abstein, Bob Culverhouse, Sören Pehrs, Thomas Keller), fans can look forward to names like John Defferary (cl & sax), Thomas l'Étienne (cl & sax), Simon Holliday (p) and Denise Gordon (voc) – a fantastic young black lady singer from the UK. Justifiably so, because with Roger (voc, dr) behind them, these new top acts will also take on a new, unmistakable character and will certainly be among the best that Europe has to offer in this musical field.
So look forward with us to the new "Roger & the Evolution" and their very special New Orleans Revue.
Watch out and dig it!
Be a New Orleanian!
