Rurik van Heys (piano), started by studying classical music at the Berlin Academy of Music. An outstanding stride pianist, he played for a long time with the Red Roseland Orchestra and Bottomland Orchestra, which whom he toured countries like Holland, the USA, Canada and Switzerland.
In the early 90s, he discovered his love for modern jazz, took lessons from people like Hendrik Meurkens, Reggie Moore and Joe Haider, and participated in workshops with Jeff Hamilton, Lyon Seaton and Larry Fuller.
Rurik van Heys won 1st prize at the "Berlin Jazz und Blues Awards 2001" with his trio "Night Train" and immediately played his way into the hearts of Berlin's jazz fans.
His mixture of modern and stride piano exerts a particular fascination on audiences whenever he appears with Roger & The Evolution.
